The Enrico Navarra and 75 Faubourg galleries present their first collaboration with the American artist Enoc Pérez. The exhibition features a selection of recent paintings and drawings, the majority of which are being shown for the first time, addressing the artist's favorite themes: interiors, portraits of notable figures, and cars, among others.

In the late 1990s, Enoc Pérez created a series of portraits of women he secretly admired. In the early 2000s, his meeting with Carole, who would become his wife, immediately impacted the subjects of his works: he began his exploration of architectural forms, one of the major and most recognizable themes of his work. Around 2018, upon the recommendation of his mentor Peter Brant, Pérez began exploring interiors. His paintings of buildings and interiors are like cultural portraits frozen in a time and place, evoking the past, present, and future all at once, and are deliberately devoid of any human presence. While the architectures are created as a tribute, the interiors represent more of an ode. Each chosen room is directly linked to a person Pérez admires or finds intriguing: artists, musicians, celebrities. During the lockdown, he diversified his subjects: burning cars, airplanes, and a return to architectural imagery.
For the first time in nearly a decade, the artist is also revisiting his methodology regarding sketches. A devotee of oil painting since the beginning of his career, Enoc Pérez stands out for his unique and unprecedented technique. Inspired by the printmaking process, he transfers paint from a sheet of paper to the canvas by rubbing and scraping. The paint is thus pressed into the canvas through the drawing.
Pérez is constantly experimenting, absorbing, processing, and reorienting himself; he never stops evolving and perfecting his technique. Thus, after having explored painting that mimics screen printing, his technique tends toward a painting process that mimics photography. Fascinated by the effects created by the material and texture of the paint, he prefers a technique without visible brushstrokes and returns to greater and finer layers of paint.
The works presented in this exhibition, created between 2019 and 2021, are the culmination of over thirty years of meticulous experimentation.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in 1967 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Enoc Pérez lives and works in New York. A graduate of Pratt Institute and Hunter College, he paints nudes, still lifes, tropical hotels and icons of modernist architecture such as the Seagram Building and Lever House. Long based on a brushless transfer technique, his painting celebrates modernist utopia and the sensuality of color. Galerie 75 Faubourg has presented two solo shows of his work, in 2021 and 2023.
