In collaboration with Yoshii Gallery (New York) and Galerie Enrico Navarra, Galerie 75 Faubourg presents an exhibition dedicated to Japanese artist Makoto Ofune, featuring a selection of recent paintings and sculptures.

eternity – ephemerality
I pursued the means of communicating with a place that is not «here and now.».
Through long and ancient memories possessed by stones and pigments, through the sensations of interpenetration with distant expanses before landscapes, and through the perceptions of winds and surrounding environments.
The meteorite present there would reveal a connection to a space-time well beyond imagination.
Just as our inner lives are always imbued with memories of the past and thoughts of the future, every reality that exists here and now is connected in some way to eternity.
This fact simultaneously brings back the realization of our existence «here and now,» and then gives rise to the feeling of transience.
Makoto Ofune, 2025
Makoto Ofune develops a work imbued with silence, slowness, and contemplation. Working with mineral pigment powders that he applies to Japanese hemp paper, stone, or crystals, he composes sensitive surfaces where the repeated gesture becomes a form of meditation. Through this practice, he questions the subtle links between the ephemeral and the eternal, the visible and the invisible, matter and breath.
Her works, at once fragile and powerful, embody a quest for resonance with the deep rhythms of nature. They translate an essential sensory experience, in which intimate perception meets a cosmic vision of the world. Her palette, full of nuance and restraint, evokes a form of visual asceticism in harmony with Zen aesthetics and thought.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in 1977 in Osaka, Makoto Ofune is a Japanese painter trained in nihonga at Kyoto University of Education. He reinvents this tradition using entirely natural materials: hemp paper, hand-ground mineral pigments and animal glue. Applied layer after layer, they build vibrant, meditative colorscapes. Shown at Château La Coste in 2023, he presented Eternity at Galerie 75 Faubourg in 2025, with Yoshii Gallery and Galerie Enrico Navarra.
