First exhibition in France exclusively dedicated to the works on paper by the artist Kenny Scharf at Villa Navarra in Le Muy. All created this year for this occasion. On view from May 23 to June 30, 2024, by appointment only.
During a conversation with Kenny Scharf, Doriano Navarra spoke to him about his particular interest in artists' works on paper. They discussed the possibility of Kenny creating a series that would be exhibited at Villa Navarra in the South of France. There, where in 2021 they had already brought together 47 tondos. The idea was launched.
Then, when Kenny confided to Doriano that he was the guest of honor—during the Cannes Film Festival—at the amfAR gala to create a live artwork for the benefit of the association, it was only natural that they decided to schedule the exhibition opening right after.
Thus on May 22, Kenny Scharf and Doriano Navarra will welcome their guests throughout the opening day at Villa Navarra, for the first exhibition in France exclusively dedicated to the works on paper by the artist. All created this year for this occasion.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in 1958 in Los Angeles, Kenny Scharf moved to New York in 1978 and, alongside Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, became a key figure of the East Village scene. A pioneer of Pop Surrealism, he fills his work with smiling creatures and fluorescent cosmic landscapes, beneath which lie ecological concerns. In 2024, Villa Navarra presented the first exhibition in France devoted to his works on paper.
